Born in Rio de Janeiro, percussionist Marcos Esguleba, as he is known artistically, is considered one of the most important percussionists of our time. He has been a member of Zeca Pagodinho’s band for 30 years, starting with Zeca’s first recording. In 2004, Marcos founded Grupo Pagode Jazz Sardinha’s Club, and received the Prêmio da Música Brasileira as the best Instrumental Music Group in 2004. He has been an integral member of the bateria of the samba school Unidos da Tijuca since 1989. As an educator, he taught at the Maracatu Brasil School in Rio de Janeiro, the 310 Music Workshop in Curitiba, and has done many workshops and masterclasses abroad. He has an extensive list of recordings and performances with artists Paulinho da Viola, Roberto Carlos, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Martinho da Vila, Sérgio Mendes, João Bosco, Ivan Lins, Maria Bethânia, Nana Caymmi, Beth Carvalho, Lulu Santos, Alcione , Daniela Mercury, Gilberto Gil among others. Currently, he is a member of Zeca Pagodinho’s band, Paulinho da Viola, Grupo Semente and Pagode Jazz Sardinha’s Club.
